MIREK KAUFMAN
THE COORDINATES of PAINTING

This book, the first comprehensive publication on the painter Mirek Kaufman, charts the most recent decade in his career. In his painting cycles, drawings, collages, and diary entries, Kaufman explores the extremes of human existence, the hidden aspects of identity, the principles of natural phenomena, and the inspirational dimension of science. In his work, painting always has the final word.

Mirek Kaufman

Kaufman studied at the Academy of Fine Arts (AVU) in Prague and at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts (ENSBA) in Paris. In the 1990s, he did study exchanges in France and Switzerland, where he held several solo exhibitions. It is during this period that he developed a closer relationship to French culture. He mainly works with large-format painting cycles. For Kaufman, the urban environment is a laboratory of daily observation and journal entries. In addition to painting, he works with photography and makes artists’ books. His art-related activities also include occasional art workshops for hidden artists from all generations. He regularly exhibits at home and abroad, where his work can be found in numerous collections.
